"Superman Returns"

Superman was probably the longest movie I've ever seen in my life. It never ended. I've never gotten the whole Superman thing. He's so endlessly powerful and such a goody goody that he comes off as the blandest guy ever to exist in the entire universe.

If Superman really existed, I would love him... but I would never want to spend any time w/ him at all, for fear that I would fall into a coma from shear boredom.

I disgree with the common wisdom. Whenever discussions about Superman arise, they always center on his powers. I believe the true message to be found in the saga of Krypton's last son is that of his morality. If one was bascially invincible, it would be awfully easy to be soft in the middle, as you never have to exert yourself to accomplish your goals. This is not the case with 'ol Supes, as even when he knows he has lost his powers he still cowboys up and charges in, heedless of the one thing that is capable of killing him.

One can indeed interpret goodness as blandness, and in most pedestrian cases this is very true. However, when harnessed to a steely will, goodness rises above the ordinary. Would you have the character to be as relentlessly moral as he?
